PAL Law Enforcement Cadets

Do you know a student interested in learning about a career in law enforcement? Check out the PAL Summer Cadet Academy and Law Enforcement Internship Program

This summer, PAL and SFPD will be doubling the size of our PAL Law Enforcement Cadet program for youth by 50 new PAL Cadets in 2011. The program includes an intensive 4-week Summer Cadet Academy and an internship and community service with SFPD during the school year.

For youth interested in a summer program to develop their leadership skills, learn more about law enforcement careers and become eligible for a year-round internship, this is an excellent training and learning opportunity.

The PAL Summer Cadet Academy gives participants a glimpse of the actual police recruit academy training. Police Academy instructors teach cadets many police procedures, including traffic stops, radio codes, and ethical conduct. Graduates of the Summer Cadet Academy will be placed in an internship at an SFPD District Station and/or SFPD Bureau starting this fall and continue throughout the school year.  Service is a big component of the PAL Cadet program.  Cadets help out at events such as community safety events, the Bayview Magic Backpack Giveaway, and even the World Series ticker tape parade!  Additional benefits include college information partnerships with the University of San Francisco and City College of San Francisco.  The program is designed to give participant hands-on job skills and leadership development experience and encourage higher education for career development.

The PAL Cadet program started in San Francisco in 1959. Since then, thousands of San Francisco youth, including many who have chosen to pursue law enforcement or public service careers, have developed new leadership and career skills as a PAL cadet.

PAL Law Enforcement Cadets engage in activities centered on the five emphasis areas of the Learning for Life program: career and job skills development, leadership experience, life skills learning, character education, and community service.

PAL Cadets meet weekly year-round to engage in training and community service activities such as: education in proper police procedures and techniques, participate in police ride-alongs, compete with other Bay Area cadet programs and assist in charitable and civic events alongside SFPD.
